CANICULAR
Los días caniculares son los más calurosos del año y ocurren el 21 de junio en el hemisferio norte y el 21 de diciembre en el hemisferio sur. Los romanos y griegos culpaban la posición del sistema estelar de Sirio (canis mayoris) durante este período de ser la causa del calor, la sequía, las tormentas eléctricas, el letargo, la fiebre, los perros rabiosos y la mala suerte. Ubicada en el territorio norte de México, recientemente calificado como uno de los estados con mayor aumento de violencia, Sonora es curiosamente también la región geográfica del mundo con récord de mayor temperatura. Está comprobado que estas condiciones climáticas pueden influir en el comportamiento humano provocando irritabilidad, afectar la interacción social; como el suicidio, la pobreza, la desesperanza y la falta de oportunidades. A lo largo de los años, he ido sintiendo curiosidad por este tipo de fenómenos naturales y sus efectos en el comportamiento humano.

Canicular or “dog days” are the hottest of the year and happen in June 21st on the northern hemisphere and December 21st in the southern hemisphere. The position of the Sirius star system was blamed by Romans and Greeks during this period to be the cause for heat, drought, thunderstorms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, and bad luck. Located in the northern territory of Mexico, recently rated as one of the highest rising states in violence, Sonora is curiously also the geographical region in the world with the record in temperature. It is proven that these weather conditions can influence human behavior causing irritability, affect social interaction; such as suicide, poverty, hopelessness and lack of opportunities. Over the years I have become curious about this type of natural phenomena and its effects on human behavior.
